Theaceae is a key family in the angiosperm phylogeny, and the vast majority of Theaceae plants are evergreen shrubs or trees (some species are deciduous), widely distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions of the eastern and western hemispheres, with the greatest concentration in southern China and neighboring Southeast Asian countries. There are about 30 genera and 700 species of plants in the Theaceae, including many economic species and rare and endangered plants with high value, and many species that can be used as flowering ornamental plants.

- Differentiation pathways in tissue culture
There are usually two pathways for cellular tissue culture to obtain regenerated plants: one is the organogenesis pathway and the other is somatic cell embryo culture. The two main differentiation pathways that we have succeeded in tissue culture of Theaceae plants are the organogenesis pathway and the somatic embryo and antherogenesis pathway.
- Basic elements of tissue culture
The selection of explants is one of the key factors for the success of plant tissue culture. The age, developmental stage, growth environment, and location of the explant donor plants can lead to differences in the physiological status of the explants, thus affecting the morphogenesis of tissue culture. We usually select stem tips, stem segments, seeds, buds, anthers, etc. as explant materials for culture.

- Commonly used culture media
A large number of elements in the basic medium have a great influence on the tissue culture of Theaceae plants. Our basic medium for the tissue culture of Theaceae plants is mainly MS, 1/2 MS, modified MS, ER, MT, etc.
- Frequently used exogenous hormones
Plant growth regulating substances are key substances in the culture medium and play an important regulatory role in tissue culture, although the amount is very small. The type of hormone and the ratio of different functional hormones are one of the key factors affecting the successful initiation of explants. The hormones we often use in the culture of Theaceae plants are 2, 4-D, 6-BA, NAA, etc. Nutrients such as coconut milk and hydrolyzed milk protein are also used by us in the tissue culture of Theaceae plants.
