The Menispermaceae family has 370-540 species in 63-79 genera worldwide, mainly in the tropics and subtropics. The plants of this family are dioecious, mostly vines, and are well-known for their medicinal flora.
Menispermaceae plants are mostly rich in alkaloids and have a wide variety of species, and also contain flavonoids, anthraquinone, and other components, which have important medical value. It can be used for antipyretic, analgesic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, hemostatic, stasis dispersing, swelling, diuretic, etc. It has anti-arrhythmic, anti-drug dependence and resistance, anti-bacterial and insecticidal, anti-tumor, and other effects.
Currently, Menispermaceae plants rely on wild resources for medicinal purposes, and due to the increase in market demand, the wild resources are being harvested in an uncontrolled manner, so Lifeasible has established a tissue culture system for medicinal Menispermaceae plants.
Lifeasible uses the young stems, shoots, and stem segments of Menispermaceae plants as explant materials and cultures them on media with different concentrations of hormones to select the optimal induction and rooting media to establish an efficient and rapid propagation system. The tissue culture system we established for Menispermaceae plants requires less material and has a relatively short propagation cycle, allowing for mass production of Menispermaceae plant seedlings.
We will choose the appropriate medium and exogenous hormones for the induction and growth stages of Menispermaceae plants according to the characteristics of different explants to ensure a high proliferation coefficient, rooting rate, and transplant survival rate.
In addition, the seedlings of Menispermaceae planted in our tissue culture system can flower and fruit normally in the following year, and the botanical traits of wild Menispermaceae plants are fully maintained, which proves that the seedlings obtained from the tissue culture system of Lifeasible can provide a new way to conserve the wild resources of Menispermaceae.
