Acanthaceae Plant Tissue Culture

Acanthaceae Plant Tissue Culture

A plant of Acanthaceae with purple flowers

Acanthaceae is a large family of dicotyledonous plants, including about 250 genera and 3,000 species of plants with a wide distribution and diverse morphology, including trees, shrubs, herbs, and vines. many species of Acanthaceae plants have high medicinal and ornamental values.

The chemical components contained in Acanthaceae plants are mainly lignans, glycosides, and flavonoids, triterpenoids, and coumarins, etc., which show more obvious antitumor, antiviral and anti-platelet agglutination effects in clinical and pharmacological applications, and have very broad development potential.

Tissue culture service

Tissue culture technology has become an effective technical tool in rapid seedling breeding, rapid propagation of detoxification, preservation of germplasm resources, plant somatic cell hybridization, haploid breeding, etc. Lifeasible provides Acanthaceae plant tissue culture that can be applied to the rapid propagation of Acanthaceae plants in vitro. Since tissue culture is independent of region, climate, and plant growth cycle, it is an effective way to obtain Acanthaceae seedlings quickly and in large quantities.

Some of the Acanthaceae plants that we have successfully tissue cultured

  • Sanchezia nobilis Hook. f.
  • Hypoestes purpurea sanguinolenta
  • Hypoestes purpurea
  • Aphelandra nobilos
  • Aphelandra squarrosa
  • Fittonia verchaffeltiivar. argyroneura
  • Andrographis panlculata (Burm. F.) Nees
  • Baphicacanthus cusia (Nees) Bremek.
  • Thunbergia grandiflora
  • Eranthemum austrosinensis
  • pachystachys lutea Nees
  • Calliaspidia guttata (Brandegee) Bremek.

The tissue culture pathways used by Lifeasible for Acanthaceae plants are mainly through induction of explants generation of clumps the three main routes of tissue culture for the family are induction of clumped shoots from explants, induction of healing tissues followed by differentiation of the healing tissues into seedlings, and aseptic seeding.

  • The induction of clumped shoots was mostly done by selecting stem segments, collar shoots, and lateral shoots.
  • We have also been successful in selecting seeds of immature Baphicacanthus cusia for aseptic sowing.
  • In addition to the selection of young leaves and petioles for the induction of healing tissue, we have also selected stem segments for successful induction of healing tissue, and many green buds were differentiated on the healing tissue to further form the test tube seedlings.

Lifeasible mostly uses MS medium in the culture of clump bud induction, proliferation, rooting, strong seedlings, aseptic germination of seeds, and leaf healing tissue induction. Successful cases also proved that MS medium can meet the requirements for normal growth and differentiation of explants.
