Berberidaceae is a family of angiosperms Ranunculales, which consists of 13 genera and about 600 species of plants, mainly distributed in the northern temperate zone. The family is an important taxon of medicinal plants, with almost all genera and most species having medicinal value. Most of the remaining taxa are important folkloric herbs with a variety of pharmacological activities and are important research objects for new drug development.
Berberidaceae plants are rich in chemical constituents that form the material basis for a wide range of biological activities of this group of plants. The chemical constituents of Berberidaceae plants mainly include lignans, alkaloids, saponins, volatile oils, amino acids, trace elements, and flavonoids. Their main pharmacological activities include antioxidant activity, antitumor activity, antiviral activity, anti-inflammatory and analgesic, and euphoric effects.
As an important medicinal resource, Berberidaceae plants have a wide range of prospects for exploitation, but the current research on them is still focused on pharmacological effects, and there is a serious lack of research on other aspects. Moreover, the quality of Berberidaceae plants in circulation in the market is mixed, and the defects of unstable efficacy seriously affect the quality of clinical drugs. With the increasing demand for Berberidaceae plants in the market, a large number of wild resources of Berberidaceae plants have been exploited and collected continuously, and the wild resources of medicinal Berberidaceae plants are facing endangerment, which is far from meeting the demand of people. Therefore, Lifeasible provides technical services for tissue culture of Berberidaceae plants to support their quality identification, selection of superior varieties, and rapid propagation.
