Cypripedium Plant Tissue Culture

Cypripedium Plant Tissue Culture

Cypripedium is a relatively primitive group of orchids, with about 50 species worldwide, distributed in temperate regions of East Asia, North America, Europe, and subtropical mountains.

The tissue culture platform established by Lifeasible
can solve the problem of propagation of reproductively
difficult species.

Currently, due to the destruction of the wild Cypripedium environment and over-harvesting, coupled with its slow reproduction rate, the wild resources of Cypripedium are facing depletion and have become endangered species.

Cypripedium has a clonal growth habit and can be propagated asexually by dividing plants, but an adult Cypripedium plant can only grow a few latent buds per year, and the reproduction coefficient is low. In addition, long-term propagation by the division may lead to degradation of the variety and decreased resistance to pests and diseases. Therefore, the use of artificial propagation, cultivation, domestication, and tissue culture technology established by Lifeasible can overcome the shortcomings of asexual propagation and obtain a large number of regenerated plants in a short period.

  • Symbiotic germination and reproduction

There is a high degree of specificity between Cypripedium and symbiotic fungi. Most of the mycorrhizal fungi that have germination-promoting effects on Cypripedium seeds are Epulorhiza, and the germination-promoting rate of symbiotic fungi on seeds is stable at 20% to 30%.

Tissue culture service

Cypripedium mainly relies on both sexual and asexual reproduction to reproduce populations, and it is very difficult to reproduce seeds naturally and the natural multiplication rate is low, which can be solved by the tissue culture platform established by Lifeasible.

  • Selection of explants (related to the target material)

Due to the uniqueness of Cypripedium, we currently only accept seeds and rhizome tissues provided by our customers as explant materials for tissue culture.
