Description
This Pogostemon selection is a speciality for lovers of unusual, rare aquarium plants. Very likely it belongs to Pogostemon quadrifolius; it was probably found in tissue culture. Its most striking feature are its glassy, transparent, deeply green leaves. It has a bushy, densely ramified growth habit, hardly exceeding a height of 10-15 cm.
Pogostemon sp. "Meng Meng" grows rather slowly and has no special demands, however medium to strong lighting and good CO2 and nutrient supply are beneficial. As well as other stem plants, it is propagated by stem cuttings. Sometimes much larger, lighter green branches will appear that are apparently not different from customary Pogostemon quadrifolius. They should be removed in order to keep the glassy, dark green form.
This special, small stem plant looks best as a group in the foreground to midground, together with other low-growing plants with contrasting colours and textures.
