Pogostemon cf. deccanensis

Pogostemon cf. deccanensis

Catalog Number
AP-0574
Description
This small plant became known via the ADA tissue culture line under the name "Pogostemon deccanensis". However the customary "Pogostemon erectus" has already been identified as Pogostemon deccanensis, confusingly. Therefore we name our plant provisionally Pogostemon cf. deccanensis. It develops under water upright shoots with very narrow, needle-like light-green leaves in whorls as well. However, under the same conditions, its shoots stay considerably smaller than the true P. deccanensis ("erectus"), with a diameter of about 2 cm. It seems that the plant is also more demanding and grows slower. It is even possible that this plant is the actual Pogostemon erectus. This still enigmatic plant has the appearance of a miniature version of the commonly available "Pogostemon erectus" (P. deccanensis) and looks very decorative as a bush in the midground or also foreground.
