Common Name
Lake Ludwigia
Description
A natural hybrid from Ludwigia brevipes and L. palustris hardly known in Europe. It looks like a larger version of Ludwigia arcuata, with brown-orange submersed leaves. Easy to cultivate and a faster grower than L. arcuata and L. brevipes. It forms a nice, lush hedge in the midground and background.
Ludwigia × lacustris is a very rare natural hybrid of L. brevipes and L. palustris. It is found in some locations in the east and south-east of the USA. As aquarium plant, this narrow-leaved Ludwigia is not very well-known yet. Curiously, some of the areas where L. × lacustris occurs are outside the distribution area of L. brevipes, which is mainly found in the south-east of Virginia as well as in North and South Carolina. Where L. × lacustris occurs in nature it grows abundantly and sometimes even outpopulates its parent species.
