Description
With its almost hair-thin medium green leaves, Hairgrass is one of the most beautiful lawn-forming aquarium plants. Grows to a height of over 10 cm. Suitable for cold-water as well as tropical tanks (up to 25℃), strong light is recommendable.
Eleocharis acicularis, commonly known as dwarf hairgrass or spikerush, is distributed almost globally. It can be found on the edges of ponds and in shallow water in Central Europe, too. It has been known as aquarium plant for a very long time and is also on sale as pond plant quite regularly. The hairlike, thin and rather upright leaves of the submersed form are of a medium green and grow to a length of about 10 to 20 cm. Eleocharis pusilla (often sold under the name "E. parvula") is quite similar to E. acicularis, but its submersed form stays smaller (grows only 5 cm high) and is of a light green colour under the same conditions, and its leaves are bent.
