Elatine hydropiper Eight-stamen waterwort

Elatine hydropiper Eight-stamen waterwort

Catalog Number
AP-0057
Common Name
Eight-stamen waterwort
Description
Elatine hydropiper was brought into trade as an aquarium plant in Jahr 2010 by the aquatic plant nursery Anubias. This plant has soon gained a lot of popularity with aquascapers as wonderful ground-covering plant. It looks like a miniature version of Glossostigma elatinoides. Whereas G. elatinoides can become quite invasive under good conditions, Elatine hydropiper grows only moderately and is thus much easier to handle. Elatine hydropiper was brought into trade by Anbias plant company in 2010. Presumably the aquarium population of this plant was originally collected in Italy (Adams 2010). Whether it is really E. hydropiper should be verified by means of flowering and fruiting plants. Elatine hydropiper is widely distributed in Europe up to northern Scandinavia as well as in Siberia and Northern China.
