Ammannia cf. gracilis "Green" Green Ammannia

Catalog Number
AP-1052
Description
This plant entered the trade as a novelty. It is labeled by the Dutch nursery Songrow as Ammannia gracilis 'Green'. However we name it for now Ammannia cf. gracilis "Green" because we don't know whether it was properly determined as A. gracilis. It actually resembles the pretty red Ammannia gracilis from tropical Africa, but its slightly wavy submerged leaves are light green with brownish hues at the stem tip. Most Ammannia species are rather demanding. Also for the Green Ammannia, we recommend strong lighting, rather soft water, complete macro- and nutrient supply (also via the bottom) and CO2 supply. The favourable temperatures lie between about 23 and 28℃. The stems should not be planted too close to another so that the lower leaves get enough light. The plant is easily propagated by stem and side shoot cuttings. This seemingly still little known Ammannia looks nice in the midground to background of well lit aquariums. With its upright growth habit, it is well suitable for Dutch style planted tanks. It also provides a contrast to red plants.
